It was a script that was too good to be true: The unheralded recruit, who blossomed into one of the nation’s top tailbacks while leading a Rutgers resurgence was going to close out his career with a touchdown that helped the Scarlet Knights end a 15-year losing streak to ranked opponents — and possibly clinch a berth in the Citrus Bowl, the Big Ten’s top destination for team’s outside the College Football Playoff.
